Tips

~ Fleas~ July brings fleas into full swing. If you have had flea problems in the past, now is the time to start flea control if you haven’t already. Flea controls that I have heard are working well are Bravecto, Nexgard and Comfortis. I have read that you can mix 1 cup organic apple cider vinegar or white vinegar with 1 gallon of water and apply to your dogs coat (not the head). Work it through the coat and do not rinse. Let it air dry. I haven’t tried it, but its a natural alternative to chemicals. Let me know if you try it and it works!

~Burrs~ Those pesky Forget-me-not burrs that seem to get caught on your pants, shoe laces and your dogs coat. The best way I have found to get them out is with a leave -in spray coat conditioner or detangler and a wire slicker brush. If your dog has been swimming, let them dry first. You can massage the detangler into the coat when they are towel dried, but then let them air dry or blow dry with a hair dryer on low heat. It may seem as though the burrs are matted in the hair, but if you gently brush over and over them the wires on the brush untangle and remove them. Be careful not to dig into the skin or you will cause brush burn which is raw and red skin…and can even bloody the skin, ouch!
